Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for children aged 9–14, with beginner-friendly classes on Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Train at Kaizen Academy on Ridge Lane in Lancaster.

Kids BJJ at Kaizen
BJJ is a grappling martial art. Children learn to work with a partner using positions and holds, rather than punches and kicks. Our junior classes use a Gi, the training jacket and trousers worn in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
A first BJJ class for your child
Your child does not need previous martial arts experience to join a regular Junior Gi BJJ class. Book a free first taster, meet the coach and let them try a session before choosing a membership. Parents can watch from the seating beside the mats.
What to bring for junior BJJ
Bring drinking water and a Gi if your child has one. Gi hire is £5 per class; contact us before coming so the team can check the size needed. Bring sliders or flip-flops for changing and toilet areas. There are no shoes on the mats.
Regular classes and advanced training
The Thursday and Saturday sessions listed here welcome beginners. Monday Advanced Junior Gi BJJ is a different class: speak to the team before joining it so a coach can check your child’s experience.
If your child is younger than 9
Our Saturday kids MMA groups are for ages 3–5 and 6–8. They offer an earlier starting point; junior BJJ is for ages 9–14. See all children’s classes to choose the right age group.

Our children’s classes all take place at Kaizen Academy on Ridge Lane, Lancaster, LA1 1EB. We have on-site parking and step-free access. If you are travelling from outside Lancaster, compare the weekday and Saturday class times before booking your child’s taster.
